Call to artists Down on the Farm River Arts exhibition

Entry Form Artists are invited to submit work for jurying into the River Arts “Down on the Farm” Exhibition.   Artists are encouraged to submit up to 3 works in any medium and that deals with farm life:  inhabitants, equipment, landscape, architecture, etc.   The work can be delivered anytime the gallery is open, but no later than May 24th  at 4:00 pm.   The exhibition will run May 30 – June 19 with an opening reception May 30th 5-7pm. The juror for the exhibition is  Kerstin Engman who exhibits at the Arden Gallery, Boston, and the Courthouse Gallery, Ellsworth, among other venues.

Human Trafficking highlighted in Maine arts

Out of the Shadows:  Bringing Human Trafficking Issues to the Forefront in Maine Human Trafficking is one of the most serious social issues of our time. It is estimated that globally 21 million people live as slaves today. These numbers far exceed any period of time in history, including that of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Conferences and speaking engagements have become important venues in bringing awareness to this 32 billion dollar industry however, as the industry grows, our need for awareness needs to increase as well. Out of the Shadows: bringing human trafficking issues to the forefront in Maine hopes to do just that on May 13th at 6pm at The Hive, 84 main Street, in Kennebunk.

New International Art Gallery opening in Portland, Maine

Portland Mayor Michael Brennan will cut the ribbon on Friday, May 2 at 5:00 PM at the new Roux & Cyr International Fine Art Gallery, located at 48 Free Street. This will commemorate the gallery’s soft opening and the start of the First Friday May Art Walk. The public is welcome to attend. MECA art student makes green crab invasion of Maine real

A Maine College of Art student, Hanji O’Chang of O’Chang Comics, animated a video that is raising awareness about the devastating impact of green crabs on the soft-shell clam industry. O’Chang worked with University of Maine at Machias professor Brian Beal, scientist Darcie Couture of Resource Access International LLC, the Maine Clammers Association and others to learn about the army of green crabs that are devastating soft-shell clams up and down the Maine coast. “Attack of the Green Crabs,” is a 4½-minute news type video narrated by Adam O’Chang and posted on YouTube

Call for Artists – Inspired by Katahdin at Maine’s Harlow Gallery in November

The Harlow Gallery invites Maine artists to submit work to the upcoming exhibition Inspired by Katahdin to be presented in partnership with brothers David & Carl Little in November 2014. Artist and author David Little has long been inspired by Maine’s tallest mountain, so much so that he wrote a book,  Art of Katahdin: The Mountain, the Range, the Region published by Down East Books in 2013. The book follows a historic timeline using art inspired by the majestic mountain, as well as a collection of Katahdin literature, photography, graphics, maps and more, and was edited by Carl Little.

The Hemera Foundation is a philanthropic organization dedicated to introducing secular contemplative views and practices into mainstream society, focusing on education, women and children, and the arts. The deadline is 04-01-2014. Tending Space Fellowships are open to visual and performing artists and writers. Fellows will receive financial support for both contemplation and creation. Maine Organic Famers & Gardeners Association poster design contest

The purpose of the Poster Design Contest is to select the design for the Fair poster, T-shirts, and other products, as well as CGCF marketing and promotions materials. The theme of the design must be in line with MOFGA’s mission and the general guidelines for participating in the Fair. The deadline is August-08-2013. Artists must be from Maine. The winning artist will receive: $1,000.00 to be paid after January 1 of the coming year; a press release about selected design/artist; a write-up in MOFGA’s newspaper, The Maine Organic Farmer & Gardener; and a one-year subscription to the MOFGA newspaper.
