Gallery Insights exhibit of Maine artists for February, 2015
Every month Gallery Insights showcases the unique work of artists with Maine connections. February, 2015 February’s exhibit showcases some of the work of INSIGHTS highlighted Gallery artists. Professor Takafumi Suzuki, also known as Yohaku Yorozuya, has had multiple exhibits over his forty year career as a photographic artist. He is renowned for his use of classic darkroom techniques spending days perfecting his images. Ramona du Houx uses the camera with a painter’s eye. The technique she discovered back in 1979, in New York, uses movement to create a sense of wonder through colors, textures, memories, and the seasons. Du Houx’s December exhibit at Berry’s continues until February from popular demand

Due to popular demand the show, which started in December continues throughout January. Ramona du Houx creates fine art photography that looks like watercolor paintings evoking mystery and a sense of wonder. Some find them nostalgic and some mystical. Every month the theme changes reflecting the personality of the “lightgraphs,” she has chosen for the month. “Lightgraphs” are a technique she created that makes photographs resemble watercolors. “Painting with the camera can create the sense of being personally close to an object through colors, textures, memories, and the seasons. With a landscape that’s exemplified because of their never-ending vastness that somehow surrounds us in an embrace. For me landscapes inspire contemplation, and patience. That and the sensation of being at home, welcomed by nature’s warmth,” said du Houx. This month’s theme is Maine Landscapes. To see more please go here.
Gallery Storks represents art from Maine
Thirty-four artists represented by Gallery Storks participated in the Affordable Art Fair in New York City in October, 2013. The exhibit was a success for the gallery and will hopefully bring interest in Storks from around the world. The next Affordable Art Fair will be in London in March and Storks plans to be a part of that event as well. Gallery Storks owner, Takafumi Suzuki, worked with Ramona du Houx over thirty years ago in Tokyo at Nihon Digako, Japan University. They both have continued to explore photography and exhibit.
