Opportunity for kids to create an adventure book at Portland Public Library

From Maine Insights: Portland Ovations and the Oak Street Studios have teamed up at the Portland Public Library on Saturday on March 29th from 11:00am to noon, for a family friendly, bookmaking workshop. Using picture books for inspiration, such as We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Mr. Tiger Goes Wild by Peter Brown, participants will be invited to create a character that travels through an adventure book of their own making. Maine’s Landscapes in watercolor like photos by Ramona du Houx

Every month Ramona du Houx exhibits her work on her online gallery and at her studio in Solon, Maine. Every month the theme changes reflecting the personality of the “lightgraphs,” she has chosen for the month. “Lightgraphs” are a technique she created that makes photographs resemble watercolors. “Painting with the camera can create the sense of being personally close to an object through colors, textures, memories, and the seasons. With a landscape that’s exemplified because of their never-ending vastness that somehow surrounds us in an embrace. For me landscapes inspire contemplation, and patience. Harlow Gallery looking for art donations

ART DONATIONS WANTED – Gifts from artists and collectors welcome. Donations of original artwork are being accepted now through February 8. 2013 to help the Harlow Gallery in Halowell. Donations of art, framed or unframed, are most welcome and your gift may be tax deductible according to current tax law. You don’t have to be an artist to donate, make room for the new by donating something from your collection – vintage art, antique art, fine crafts, sculpture, artifacts and curios all will be gratefully accepted. The donations will be part of this year’s Kennebec Valley Art Association’s annual Silent Art Auction from February 12-15, 2014.

Call for Artists: 19th Annual Juried Art Show at the Harlow Gallery

The Kennebec Valley Art Association invites artist submissions to Art2014, the 19th annual juried show at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell. Art2019 is open to all Maine artists and also to artists with a strong connection to Maine. We are excited to announce that this years juror is Andres A. Verzosa, owner of Aucocisco Galleries in Portland Maine. Over $1,500 in cash prizes and gift certificates from area business sponsors will be awarded at an awards ceremony at the exhibition’s opening on Friday, May 9 at 6pm. Art2014 the exhibition will be on view May 9 to 31.
