Stonington gallery offers jazz concerts

The g-Watson Gallery will present two jazz concerts in July featuring internationally acclaimed musicians. On Sunday, July 6, pianists Bruce Barth and Eri Yamamoto will perform piano duos, according to a news release from the gallery. Barth studied at the New England Conservatory of Music and initially toured extensively with Terence Blanchard before leading his own groups and playing as a sideman with many others. He has performed on over 100 recordings and movie soundtracks, including many as a leader.

Haystack to host evening programs, exhibition

Originally published in Compass, July 10, 2014 Haystack’s second of three summer exhibitions, Combat Paper, a veteran-run arts organization based in New Jersey, will lead workshops in writing and visual arts for invited veterans at Haystack’s Center for Community Programs, July 14-18. The two-day exhibition, which follows the workshops, will feature some of the work made during those workshop sessions. The programs are supported by a grant from the Broad Reach Foundation of the Maine Community Foundation. Honey, I Shrunk the ARTworks – CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Common Street Arts, downtown Waterville, Maine, announces the third annual, open exhibition, ARTworks. CSA will fill the gallery walls with tiny masterpieces created by local artists crafted on small wooden panels provided by the gallery. To enter: 1. Stop by CSA between May 28 and June 28 during gallery hours to retrieve up to three 6 x 6 inch wood panels. 2. Create up to three works of art on panels. Any medium is welcome. 3. Return your panel/s anytime from July 11-20 during gallery hours.

The diversity on display in the exhibits and studios are exactly what the collaborative of artists likes to offer. The recent exhibit, Dreams, had 14 different artists, displaying 27 artistic expressions of dreams that stirred one’s imagination. There was something for everyone, which made the exhibition stand out. Many galleries often have solo shows that require the viewer to devote themselves to one artist’s vision.
