Pianos in Bangor installed in various Maine parks are proving to be great for the community.

One was installed by a group called the Kindness Project in September, while the others are part of the city’s “Artober” month-long art event. Bangor partnered with a non-profit arts incubator called Launchpad for the project. The group worked with Maine artists to get donated upright pianos painted, in working condition and then moved them into city parks.

“It’s been really heartwarming, we’ve gotten so many e-mails from community members at the different parks sending photos of their children and their families to us,” said Meg Shorette, Launchpad’s executive director.” We’ve been reached out to by two other municipalities asking if it’s something we’d consider doing in their cities next year.”

Those who would like to try out the “Artober “pianos you only have a couple more days to do it, then they will be heading to new permanent homes. One of them was broken beyond repair earlier this month. The remaining city pianos are in Hayford Park, Second Street Park and Pierce Park in Bangor.
