Higher Forms of Art, an exhibition of artwork by students from nine central Maine high schools will be on view in the Richmond Gallery in University of Maine at Augusta’s Handley Hall at 331 Water Street in downtown Augusta from March 6-28, 2015.

In celebration of Youth Art Month the Kennebec Valley Art Association (KVAA) is partnering with UMA to present the 9th annual exhibition of artwork from area high schools. 2015 marks the 2nd year in a row that Higher Forms of Art is being presented in partnership with UMA, in the spirit of the KVAA’s mission to connect and celebrate art, artists and community.

Hours at the Richmond Gallery are Thursdays & Fridays 12-5pm, Saturdays 10am-1pm. The public is invited to join students and faculty at the opening reception on Friday, March 6, 5-7pm – arrive early for tours of UMA art and architecture studios, classrooms and more from 4-5pm. The reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Higher Forms of Art gives emerging artists the opportunity to show their art in a professional gallery space, and to get a taste of what goes into organizing an art exhibition.

Students from each school participate in hanging the exhibition and help with planning and organizing the shows opening event. Higher Forms of Art has been made possible this year by a UMA President’s Grant and by a grant from the Maine Community Foundation.

Higher Forms of Art is a project of the Kennebec Valley Art Association (KVAA), a 501(c)3 membership based non-profit founded in Augusta in 1958. The KVAA owns and operates the Harlow Gallery in downtown historic Hallowell.
