Poet Richard Blanco will kick off Poetry Month at Bangor Public Library
April is National Poetry Month and to celebrate, the Bangor Public Library has partnered with Bangor High School to bring poet Richard Blanco to Bangor. Blanco will read from his works at a reception at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 3, at the library. The library will host the 13th annual POETS/SPEAK! celebration in cooperation with the University of Maine and the University of Maine Museum of Art at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, April 4. Selected by President Obama to be the fifth inaugural poet in history, Blanco followed in the footsteps of Robert Frost, Maya Angelou, Miller Williams and Elizabeth Alexander. He read his poem, “One Today” at President Obama’s inauguration on Jan. 21, 2013.
