Applications are being accepted for the 2015 Monhegan Artists’ Residency. The submission guidelines have been significantly changed recently to be more inclusive. The program now accepts applications from visual artists working in any medium at any stage of their career. All artists, who reside in Maine or have significant ties to the state, are eligible to apply. In addition to two five-week residencies on Monhegan Island for artists, the program offers one two-week residency for a Maine K–12 art teacher.

“Thanks to the generous support of individual donors, the Fisher Foundation, and the Underhill Foundation, we are again able to support three residencies this year,” said Susan Danly, chair of the board of directors.

The residency program provides living quarters, studio space, and a $100 per week stipend. The 2015 residencies for artists run May 30 – July 3 and September 5 – October 9. The Maine art teacher residency runs July 7 – 17 to accommodate the school year schedule.

The application deadline for all residencies is March 15, 2015. Applications for the residency program are being accepted online only. This year’s jurors will be Bruce Brown, collector and former curator at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art; Lauren Fensterstock, artist; and Laurie Perzley, Fine Art Director and Curator at Thos. Moser Gallery and MARC Board Member. “We are very excited about the prestigious line-up of jurors this year,” Susan Danly said.

An important goal of the program is to provide the opportunity for a transformative experience to dedicated artists at all stages of their career. Beyond a connection to the state of Maine, quality of work is the primary criterion for selection. Previous recipients include Karen Adrienne, Kenny Cole, Cynthia Davis, Nicole Duennebier, Alina Gallo, Joe Kievitt, John Knight, Sarah Knock, Martha Miller, Robert Pollien, Marguerite Robichaux, Lynn Travis, and David Vickery.

Founded in 1989, the Monhegan Artists’ Residency program is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit supported by donors, art galleries, corporate sponsors, and foundation grants.
