Screen Shot 2015-02-07 at 7.45.20 PMRiver Arts in Damariscotta, is inviting artists to submit work for its upcoming “Artists’ Choice” Exhibition. We are seeking submissions of in any media, sculpture and fine crafts welcome.

Work can be submitted during gallery hours anytime up to 4pm on Saturday, February 21st at 4 pm. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, February 27, from 5-7. The exhibition will hang until March 26.

Juror for “Artists’ Choice” Exhibition is Robert Colburn, curator and manager of the Bayview Galleries in Brunswick and Camden. From a family of professional artists, Robert Colburn grew up in Maine and decided at an early age to pursue art as a career. In addition to his busy career at Bayview Galleries, he remains active as a painter, exhibiting at Asymmetrick Arts, Cape Cottage Gallery, the Clown, Bayview Galleries and many other locations. Citing his study at Bowdoin College with artists such as Thomas Cornell, Ann Harris and Anne Lofquist as important experiences, Colburn describes his present artistic philosophy as a mixture inspired by both old and contemporary masters. Artists can enter up to 3 works for jurying. ($15 entry fee for members $20 entry fee for non-members) All work entered must be for sale. Wall-hung work size maximum: 60 inches in height, 42 inches in width – and for safety reasons plexiglass or other non-glass option should be used for work over 34 inches, excluding pastels.

River Arts holds 10 themed, open, juried exhibitions per year—with some of Maine’s most prominent art community members as jurors. Over 800 different Maine artists have exhibited in these shows. The gallery program creates opportunity for artists to have their work selected, participate in the gallery process and sell their work. Over 7,000 people visited the gallery and participated in events and workshops last year.

The mission of River Arts is to nurture and encourage participation in the arts throughout the region of Midcoast Maine by providing exhibition, studio and performance spaces, classes and workshops, for people of all ages and abilities and support a wide range of activities in artistic disciplines by partnering with other arts and performance organizations to produce program.
