Call for Photography at Waterfall Art

Waterfall Arts, as part of the statewide Maine Photo Project, has dedicated its annual Open Call Show to the photographic image. Photographers of all ages are invited to submit work based on the theme of The Poetry of Maine’s Fog, Rain, Snow and Ice. All participants in this unjuried exhibit may submit one photograph, either digitally or dark room printed which illustrates the theme; the work must be original work (no reproductions or collages).

Call to artists to exhibit at Johnson Hall in Gardiner, Maine

The Harlow Gallery and Johnson Hall invite Maine artists to submit work for an art exhibition opening April 10, 2015 at Johnson Hall in Gardiner. Email submissions are being accepted through March 1st and will be reviewed by curatorial committee comprised of staff and volunteers from both organizations. The art exhibition will be on view at Johnson Hall at 280 Water Street in Gardiner from April 10 through May 22, 2015, and any sales proceeds will support two cornerstones of the arts in central Maine: Johnson Hall and the Harlow Gallery! Center for Maine Contemporary Art begins the transition to Rockland

Contractors began tearing down a building in Rockland on October 27, 2014, to make way for a new home for the Center for Maine Contemporary Art(CMCA). CMCA got special permission to build a new contemporary building in Rockland going against city ordinances. City officials agreed to the modern design of the new CMCA museum/workshop space because Rockland has become a go-to place for fine art in Maine. The move to Rockland will enable CMCA to stay open year-round and increase its presence and Rockland’s reputation for a growing creative economy and cultural community. The art center will move seven miles south to downtown Rockland by July 2016. CMCA has been in Rockport since 1952.

USM, group get $1.9 million art education grant

The University of Southern Maine and a Portland education group will receive $1.9 million from the federal government for arts education in Portland schools. The university announced last week that Youth in Action: Side x Side and the school will receive the grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The Arts in Education Model Development and Dissemination grant will be used to develop a four-year arts education program entitled, Project IMAGINE.

Haystack gets grants to support art programs for Maine teens
